I am a mother of 4, but every student that I have taught I consider mine (therefore, I have a TON of kids). I love teaching and helping others become the BEST version of themselves. I find pleasure in reading books, spending family time, eating pizza, and doing Pilates. The Cool Kids Read Book Club is truly the best extracurricular activity my daughter has ever been part of. From day one, she was beyond excited about attending and counted down the days each week. Cool Kids Read Book Club should be mandatory in EVERY SCHOOL! Ms. Nathan has improved my bookworm’s love and appreciation for reading in ways that I currently am not able to support! He started as an advanced 2nd grader reading 4-5th-grade-level literature. But being in the club not only increased his reading level to 6th grade level but also his UNDERSTANDING on literature. He is able to identify the who, what, where, and why parts of the story and is able to retain the story topics and themes. His involvement also improved his ability in math and his overall social skills. We appreciate Ms. Nathan and the Cool Kids Read Book Club. My 2nd-grade son consistently asks when it will start again, and my Kindergarten son has been begging to join the club! We are forever thankful! All the best through light and love.

I enrolled my daughter, who has special needs, in the Cool Kids Read Book Club as a final effort to support her reading development. When Ms. Nathan began working with my daughter she was unable to read at all; however, by the end of the program, she had begun reading independently. Prior to this, we had tried other tutoring services without seeing meaningful progress. In contrast, Ms. Nathan’s experience working with children with disabilities allowed her to identify an approach that truly met my daughter's needs. This program helped build the confidence necessary for her to achieve measurable progress. I am deeply grateful to Ms. Nathan and the Cool Kids Read Book Club for helping both a child who was struggling and a parent who felt she had exhausted all other options.
The best thing I could ever do was sign my daughter up for Cool Kids Read at AIP. The confidence she gained is unbelievable, with reading for herself as well as among peers. We struggled at home, but Ms. Nathan was able to put it together, and it became fun and enjoyable for her. She got to bond with friends and also craved to go. At one point, if I had to check her out and it was book club day, oh goodness, she would have a meltdown! That speaks volume on her heart towards the club. The multiple benefits that have come from this club make my family so grateful. My daughter has been a member for 2yrs and we are excited to continue this journey. My son is a 4th grader who participated in Cool Kids Read last semester at his school. He is definitely “a changed man.” He already had a habit of reading for fun and a burgeoning imagination for developing his own stories. Well, once he started attending Cool Kids Read, we could hardly contain that creative energy! According to him, his favorite part of the club was when they would read aloud as characters in the books. He said he pretended to actually become the character so that others would love the books he read. Each session left him feeling connected and appreciated. He emphatically told me to make sure that the club is back this semester to sign him up on the first day!

Gabby was struggling academically and emotionally in public school. She felt overwhelmed, and so did I. She felt unseen and lost confidence in herself. She was in a one-size-fits-all system, and I had to do something. I met Ms. Nathan via Facebook when I was seeking help for tutoring. Her schedule will not allow her to work with my daughter the amount of time she needed. However, she encouraged me to enroll my daughter in the school, where the program was already in place. That was the best decision I made. Since joining the Cool Kids Read book club, I have seen a growth in Gabby’s reading and in her confidence. She has grown so much and gets excited when she recognizes words on her own. She is no longer discouraged by reading. She is happy, motivated, and proud of herself.
